I thought that if i let anyone in, they’d find out what was broken about me. And then not only would they know, i’d know too.

Fun Aunt

Fun Aunt

If you’ve been on Tiktok at any point in time, you’ve probably seen the “rich aunt” memes which I’ve longed to relate to my whole life. Though I have cousins with kids, I’ve never had a sibling with a kid and though it’s not quite a goal of mine, the fact that it’s finally happened feels pretty sweet.

My sister Pamy gave birth last week to a super sweet baby boy named Theo Edward Qian How and I honestly am just in shock that Pamy, my sister whom I shared a bathroom with is now a mom. I know it’s been a while coming now but I’m still surprised that someone in our generation procreated.

Our family hasn’t been the most regular one and I love us for it. So when my dad’s been dropping hints that he wants grandkids, I both get it but also felt this unfair and unnecessary pressure — given the world’s circumstances. Still, now that we have Theo, I’m just glad Pamy is healthy and safe and has a great partner in her husband, Ed.

My sister gave birth on Saturday and I was able to meet this incredibly well behaved baby on a Sunday and the entire time I was at the very cold hospital room I was still having to double take and realise that oh yeah, this baby is real and Pam is a mom now. And then when I dropped off food for them on Thursday and saw their house in a state of baby invasion.

It’s a whole new chapter for them and I’m kinda excited to be the aunt that’s nearby (ish) but can only do 10 minute shifts with the baby. Kidding Or am I? nevertheless, excited to be the fun aunt. As the parents descend on Singapore in the coming weeks, here’s to enjoying our new born family member. Hey, Theo! Let’s have fun!
