I thought that if i let anyone in, they’d find out what was broken about me. And then not only would they know, i’d know too.

I survived a month of staying within budget. I didn’t think I could (especially with how the first quarter went), but I’m glad I could prove this theory.

LOVING

Singapore slowly opening up. So many events were cancelled because of COVID-19 and Rugby 7s was one of them. I went a couple years back with Acid and Toby and we had a blast. I know that friends of mine have been going every year because one of them works for the sponsor (and thus, have better access to tickets). This year, I can’t believe it, but we went to National Stadium and sat among a crowd of people. Sure, the capacity wasn’t 100% but I wouldn’t expect anything less of Singapore. I felt safe and I also had fun.

WORKING ON

Hosting friends at home. With this whole budgeting thing going on, I realise that I do have a place where I could host friends, except that I grew up with a mom who was so good at hosting parties that I kind of always felt that was the ONLY way to host parties (i.e. multiple courses, flawless execution). I’ve since come to realise that I will not live up to this crazy expectation I’ve set for myself. So instead, I am keeping the bar low with cooking one dish, possibly ordering more and then having friends bring the booze they want to drink. And so far, not only is my wallet happy, but so are my friends who I have not invited (back) over to my place since I first moved in.

FEELING

Awed by community of like-minded folks. I very much stick to my social circles and I am a self-proclaimed terrible networker, but when push comes to shove and I have to get out of there, it’s been interesting to come out of my shell and open up to new experiences. Taylor hosted a pizza party (the pizza was amazing) and a podcast recording for Making an Impact, and though the topic was a bit heavy (burnout), it was still pretty awesome to see not only his flatmates, but his friends come together to have thoughtful conversations. I’m excited to edit this podcast whenever it will come out.
