Let's Get Loud
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I love Jennifer Lopez and seeing her and Shakira kill at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show was everything. I’ll admit I was a bit annoyed that JLo had to share the stage when other female performers got solo billing but Shakira and JLo had really great vibes and sets and together, it was just over the top awesome.
My key takeaway from Shakira is: I need to take a belly dancing class and I guess attend some core classes. Her abs. The hips don’t lie. Also, I knew she’s with Gerard Pique, but I didn’t realise there was a 10 year difference because she looks AMAZING. And she moves so amazingly. These are goals for me in 10 years time. I have 10 years to look 1/10th like her.
She plays guitar! Drums! Can shake the hips like anything. What a freaking bad ass. That rope dance she did. I don’t know. Then she breaks into I Like It with Bad Bunny! And I know Cardi B is in the audience and it’s just all love. And I’m wishing my Spanish were better!
Then of course J.Lo makes an entrance and she’s out to make a show. She’s always put on a spectacle but this could be her biggest stage yet and she makes the most of it. Seamlessly going through her hits one after the other, even the snipped of it must be the ass, and the way she strategically bends over, its pure showmanship. I am in awe.
The HAIR! the make-up! The costume changes! the dance set pieces! She put that pole dancing to use! That’s a skill! Flaunt it whenever! I’m just blown away and have to keep reminding myself she’s 50 fucking years old. I am creaking in my bones. I am grooving through this entire thing even if I’ve watched it 10 million times now.
Then it got political — and I LOVE IT even more Let’s Get Loud with KIDS IN CAGES singing Born in the USA. Yes! It’s her daughter singing on stage with her at the Super Bowl. That’s precious. But it’s also a stunning visual. Then of course in true J.Lo fashion, she struts out in an American flag FUR cape that reveals a Puerto Rican flag inside. I am bowing down and on my knees at this point. I want to get in that fur with her Constance Wu style in Hustlers.
Then of course they end it together looking like the precious gold and silver goddesses they are. The salsa dancing! Honestly. I’m done. February. Thank you for this 14 minute workout for my eyes. I have of course, stayed in my seat the entire time but they sure as hell made me think of hitting the gym.
