I thought that if i let anyone in, they’d find out what was broken about me. And then not only would they know, i’d know too.

Currently: June 2020

The uncertainty of COVID-19 is still very much alive but June brought surprises. It had a lot of zoom calls for happy occasions (birthdays!) and sad ones too (layoffs — I’m ok over-all but it’s been pretty grim and sad saying goodbye to some colleagues). But over-all, I found myself in much more calls than the previous months — something I didn’t think was possible.

And still, I was getting used to this new lifestyle. The work from home life is a pretty good one even if the isolation wasn’t the best. But you can’t have it all and so we made the most of it. And now, half the year is gone and we look forward the the second half of 2020.

Loving

  • So I’ve moved houses! And for the first time in my life, I’m not just renting a room but instead, have had an entire place. It’s been a pretty awesome couple of days thus far! What took me forever while moving in was figuring out where to put my things — now that not everything needs to be in my room! A great feeling, I feel very grateful that I’m able to do this at this point in my life.

  • And it’s funny (but not really) because I was trying to plan a move in the middle of circuit break where things were more restricted and I settled on a June 19 date (a Friday) to move and got all my permits only for Phase 2 to begin on this date! But now we can see up to 5 people in our homes! And meet folks who don’t live in your house. This means I get to see my siblings (and friends!). It feels good to not be sooooo restricted but also worrying cause it’s not like the virus has gone away.

  • Running my fastest 10KM ever. I signed up with some colleagues and friends for the Marathon challenge and that meant that one Saturday morning, I had to run 10KM. I haven’t done a 10KM in a while — I try to keep things below 5KM because of my knees but thought for a one-time thing, why not? And I did my best ever time which is rare because I’m such a slow runner.

Working On

  • Chinggay invited me to sign up for an online course on Jane Austen: Myth, Reality and Global Celebrity from the University of Southampton and I”m only one week in but it’s been pretty interesting thus far. I’ve always loved her and her work (no shit) and after reading Jane Austen at Home earlier this year, I feel like this is a good time to dive in some more.

  • Macy also got me into a 21 Day Abundance meditation which works a bit like a chain letter, but it’s just nice to have some structure around thinking about abundance in my life because lord knows how grateful I am for everything and hey, I wouldn’t mind more of this feeling.

Anticipating

  • A balance of zoom and real life~ Given the easing of measures, I actually can go out and meet people and though I am also looking forward to that, I’m also quite happy to stay home — the irony! I hope I can find the balance of the virtual and real life hanging out because honestly, it was not too too bad (when it’s not mandated).
