Persuasion
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that I will watch any Austen adaptation and Netflix’s attempt at persuasion was no different.
Did the internet hate it? Kind of. They called it the Fleabag-ification of Austen. Did I care at all? Of course not.
We only have one other Persuasion adaptation with Sally Hawkins and though I enjoyed that one too, there’s just all the space for all the remakes and I’ll always be here for it
Starring my forever bangs-peg, Dakota Johnson, I really enjoyed her breaking the fourth wall shenanigans and her copious consumption of alcohol. I feel like that really was the only way to survive Austen times.
The peppering of people of colour feels like automatic in this era, but it was nice to see some colour nevertheless.
I’ll admit I wasn’t super familiar with the story, having only read the novel once before — unlike the other works of Austen that i have memorised. But it was still enjoyable!
Her chemistry with the lead was there though maybe not as electrifying but I’ll pin that on the script more than anything else.
I’m still holding out for my Pride and Prejudice miniseries. Because it’s been a while but this was a nice treat in bet
