I thought that if i let anyone in, they’d find out what was broken about me. And then not only would they know, i’d know too.

Not Quite Nothing

Not Quite Nothing

Well, the English Premiere League 20/21 season is over and though we started with some COVID-19 brouhaha and the release of All Or Nothing, the Amazon documentary, you’d think we’d end with a bang. We sort of did. We had ups and downs with Jose Mourinho, whom the board decided to sack right before the Carabao Cup finals (that we lost to ManCity). And somehow, we still ended up 7th on the table with rumors of Sir Harry Kane leaving us in the summer. Honestly, I’m still processing a lot of the feelings, but we had our good times. So instead, I’ll choose to focus on those.

We gained some interesting new players and though a lot of them came with so much fanfare, Gareth Bale (returning champion) and amazing bonus Sergio Reguillion, my favorite of the newbies would have to be Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who really just gave it his all. I think he played most games this season and yet he showed so much energy and passion. Bleeding from the eye? Let him keep playing. Never giving up. Sure, he had some off games (and who wouldn’t if you were playing all the goddamn time, but it was just really nice to see some new blood from Southampton really come into the club and give it their all. Plus it doesn’t hurt that I got his kit for my birthday this year. Thanks, Dad!

Then of course, there was the amazing duo that was Harry Kane and Son Heung Min who combined to be the most lethal duo in the league. Honestly, I don’t know what we’d do without them both, but looks like we’ll have to start imagining this. For all the flack that Mourinho got, he did say he would make Harry Kane explode and adding Sonny to the mix, just made their combination so incredibly dangerous, I pitied every defender that had to go up against them. Kidding, I didn’t care for the defenders, they were such a joy to watch. Having them set up the play and assist each other, was such a treat. I hope we get Harry for another season (and Sonny for that matter).

But really, this all leads to the incredible loss the team will have to face when we say goodbye not just to Harry but to Hugo or Sonny as well. You can’t blame any of them for leaving. This was the season wherein we should have won something right? FA Cup? Carabao Cup? Europa League? But instead we got kicked out one by one and understandably these players are going to want some silverware — on top of the money they’re making. They are athletes after all. It makes me sad that it probably won’t be with Spurs but i’m really happy for the service they’ve given to the club all these years. Both Eriksen and Trippier have moved on to clubs and have won silverware right away there and as sucky as that feels, I’m happy for them. At least Harry got the golden boot this year (so well deserve) and for a club that was at 7th place.

What happens next season? God knows. Who stays and who goes. Who will our manager finally be? We’ve seen our new kit now, but I’m slightly anxious for what’s to come. Here’s to a good, restful summer for everyone and hopefully a better table. Come on you, Spurs.
